Erin Moening

Erin Moening grew up skiing in Saint Paul, MN, and quickly rose to the top in the Midwest Junior Racing Season in her young years as a Junior. She went on to Northern Michigan University where she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, raced, and assisted the Nordic Ski Team Coaching Staff. During that time, Erin spent 3 years promoting Midwest Skiing as the Central Collegiate Ski Association’s Press Director.

With an impressive track record as an 8-time Junior All-American, Erin understands the commitment and discipline required to excel in Nordic skiing. She brings firsthand knowledge of competitive skiing. Her dedication to the sport is evident in her role as the Head Coach of the Minneapolis Ski Club, where she led the team to 3rd at Junior Nationals in 2022 and the women’s team 2nd in 2023. Erin’s passion for the success of Midwest Skiing remains at the core of her endeavors.

How did you get into skiing and coaching?

I grew up skiing with my dad, aunts, uncles, cousins, and sisters!

What are your most fond memories of skiing?

There are too many to count, but my favorites always involve spending quality time with my favorite people: my family, friends, teammates, athletes, and fellow coaches.

Favorite place to visit in Minnesota?

Maplelag holds many very happy ski memories with family and friends, but again, this was so hard to decide!

What keeps you motivated to coach?

Building connections and relationships with athletes makes staying involved in the sport and the Twin Cities Skiing Community easy.

What are the things you are the most excited for this upcoming year?

This is the 2nd year that I've been with Team Birkie, and I'm so excited about the team we got this year! We're bringing some MN natives back to the Twin Cities and introducing some new serious talent to the Midwest. I am excited to continue to build a fun, competitive culture.

How can you make your community better?

My goal as a coach with Team Birkie is to keep young athletes involved in Skiing longer (blog link). One athlete's impact on the sport and community can be massive, and I believe this philosophy will raise the bar for elite skiing in the Midwest. There is so much passion for skiing surrounding us; we want to give the Midwest Skiing Community another opportunity to celebrate our region's success.
